How to Order

The upper and lower curved forms are made using multiple layers of veneer which are laminated together resulting in very strong and distinctive shapes. The edges are then painted with multiple coats of black acrylic.

A colored acrylic is then applied to create a texture over which a final coat of black milk paint is applied. When this final coat is sanded, the underlying acrylic is exposed, creating the final finish which is rather stone like in appearance. The same procedure is used on the sphere at the base.

The green sculptural form is hand carved from Douglas Fir, which is then colored with milk paint and lightly sanded allowing some of the wood's essence and texture to show through. Milk paint is an old fashioned paint that dates back more than a hundred years and as the name implies, it relies upon milk protein to serve as a binder. It has a high content of clay particles, which sands easily and burnishes nicely to a soft luster.

Most of the materials that are used in this table are reclaimed. The Douglas Fir pedestal is made from salvaged beams with a low moisture content, ensuring stability for generations.

The final finish consists of a combination of polyurethane and tung oil. It is a durable moisture resistant finish that protects the wood, yet doesn’t give it a “plastic” look. With proper treatment, the finish needs little more than occasional dusting to maintain the natural beauty and grace of this fine piece of furniture.
