The artist has named this collection, The Iris Series, a progression of carved irises with a sculpted female unfolding within the blossom as time moves on. In the beginning of the series, the flower is closed and the woman is tightly folded. Toward the end of the series, the blossom has opened and the woman is standing. In these sculptures Schneider has combined Black Cherry and Black Walnut woods to create a naturally sensual sculpture each mounted on a polished Champlain Black Marble base. The marble is 450 million years old and actually contains a sea shell fossil in the base of Iris Emerging.
The Iris Series crescendos as it develops. The sculptures get progressively larger. The flower and the woman unfold and open. The femme centrale ages gracefully as four parts in the sequence develop: Iris Budding Beauty (photos 2 and 3), Iris Awakening (photos 4 and 5), Iris Emerging (photos 6, 7, and 8), Iris Full Bloom (photos 9, 10, and 11), and finally at the end, Iris Moving On (photos 12 and 13).

With Femme Florale, Mr. Schneider has combined his woodworking and sculptural skills and experiences from over 30 years. His career has included elaborate ornamental carvings, sculptures, and many sculptural furniture pieces. His uniquely designed curved stairs are functional sculptures. Graceful curves and the beauty of natural forms have inspired Schneider throughout his career. These influences are focused in Femme Florale as the fusion of natural curves.
