Figured Curly African Shedua (Guibourtia Ehie) with its naturally developed medium-to-dark ranging browns, is used to represent the earth's flat surface and its solid, unyielding under structure. This stable heavy timber is an obvious choice for this piece, however the design depends upon another critical element: the setting sun.

A single piece of bright orange colored cathedral glass represents the setting sun. To protect the glass and complete the desired affect of this piece of art furniture, the glass edge is wrapped with a band of zinc, which is silver soldered and then darkened.

The table is hand finished with a durable oil-varnish to highlight the naturally contrasting range of colors and to protect the beautiful patina of the timber while giving the table a warm feeling to the touch.
