This elegant and imaginative piece will add a sophisticated touch to any decor. The top and lighter details on the base are created from a new building material, Kirei board, which is made from compressed sorghum stalks that previously would have been burned following harvest. The base is sheathed in tempered hardboard, made from bark and other remnants of lumber harvesting. Both the top and base utilize torsion box construction: essentially an open wood grid that uses a minimum of lumber, but becomes very rigid when laminated with sheet materials. The legs are poplar, turned on a lathe together, split apart, shaped, and finished with milk paint and clear finish.
